One process. One system. Worldwide for everyone. Find out how we are helping GIZ to migrate its global network of locations to S/4HANA and master the challenges of the public sector.
In an ambitious project, parasus is supporting the Deutsche Gesellschaft für internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in standardizing its global procurement processes and converting them to SAP S/4HANA. With the motto “One process. One system. Worldwide for everyone.” we are helping GIZ on its way to standardized and digitalized business processes without system discontinuities. The goal: global harmonization and optimization of global procurement processes by 2027 at the latest.
Together with GIZ, we analyse and optimize the existing procurement processes in the Procure2Pay workstream, align them with the latest SAP S/4HANA Best Practices and thus ensure optimal end-to-end digitalization of the existing business processes. Additional required systems are connected, such as X-Rechnung (e-invoicing from the legislator) and software for public sector procurement procedures.
In this way, sustainable added value is created for GIZ by transferring customer-specific processes back to the SAP standard and automating manual purchasing processes. The project is already making impressive progress: Using the SAP Activate methodology, the process landscape tailored specifically to the requirements of the public sector is being developed in a greenfield approach.
Of course, as in any major project, there are always hurdles to overcome. One of the biggest challenges of the project is the extensive global network of GIZ’s international locations, which is currently inadequately linked to the operational processes at GIZ headquarters. Harmonizing the central and field structures is therefore a complex task that requires careful coordination to ensure that the different parts of the organization can work together effectively.
However, the quote from Ralph Hantschel, the overall project manager of our partner Ernst & Young (EY), underlines the success in taking on this challenge:
“parasus has the most competent workstream in the whole project. The seniority and professional approach to dealing with setbacks are impressive.”

We are looking forward to further challenges in the project, as they offer the opportunity to continue to successfully accompany GIZ on its way to globally harmonized and digitally optimized procurement. By systematically optimizing and harmonizing the procurement processes and integrating the international locations, we are pleased to be able to help GIZ to be well prepared for the latest developments in international cooperation in the future.
